Supplementing for Seasonal Changes

Did you know your body has different needs throughout the year? One way to preventing sickness is to build up your immune system and in the following blog, from our sister-site, Dr. Bob shares his best tips during the changing of the seasons:

This is the time of year when people who tend to be deficient in iodine tend to have the most challenges; cold ache in the bones with the first hint of mid 30 to 40 degree temperature with a congested chest and runny nose. If you are experiencing joint pain and are uncomfortable in the cold temperatures you may want to have your serum thyroid panel and vitamin D3 levels assessed. We can send a kit anywhere in the world; you would want a TSH, T3, T4 and TPO and vitamin D. If your T4 result is less than the midline (actually 8 or less) I would recommend at least 6 mg or ½ tablet of Iodizyme-HP™ per day for two weeks then take one per day forever. I personally take 12 mg of iodine every day.

The thyroid gland is affected by seasonal changes. It is the main regulator of your metabolism and your ability to handle the cold and different temperatures. Nearly one-third of all the patients and worldwide clients we consult with or treat have a thyroid gland that is not functioning properly. Over the years, countless people come into the office with a part of the thyroid removed or on a thyroid medication. Thyroid function is important and could be compromised from chlorine in the pool or shower and bromine from the hot tub; review your summer and supplement accordingly.

You want your vitamin D3 level to be at least 40. Vitamin D is very important in preventing colds and flu during the winter.
