How to Improve Digestion Function

Digestion –

The process of breaking down food into smaller and smaller pieces so that the body can assimilate nutrient and that the body can use it to help regenerate like it is supposed to.

Why It's Important –

Over 70% of our nervous system and our immune system is present in our digestive system because it is our contact with the outside world.

Our digestion is the key to the success of the rest of the body. If we have poor digestion than we are destined to have health challenges

Some common digestive challenges include: constipation, diarrhea, upset stomach, indigestion, liver and gallbladder dysfunction, gas, bloating, burping, fatigue, flatulence, no taste for meat, lack of appetite, leaky gut, inflammatory arthritis and many more.

Simple Steps to Improve Digestion

-Slow down and chew your food. The process of chewing helps release enzymes in our stomach in order to help break down. Chewing also releases enzymes in our mouth in order to help better break down food.

-Drink more water – we should be drinking half of our body weight in ounces of water every day. Dehydration can lead to more serious digestive challenges.

-Add herbs to your diet. Herbs can help aid in good digestion.

-Reduce and eliminate processed foods and carbohydrates.

-Consuming large amount of carbohydrates leads to digestive inflammation. Our bodies are not designed to handle this.

-Avoid and eliminate gluten from the diet. This is all rye, wheat, oats, and barley. Gluten is a protein that can impair proper digestion of nutrients. Gluten is also addictive and can have similar effects of morphine or heroin in the body.

-Remove sugar from the diet because it will create inflammation in the body as well as decrease the immune system.

-Include more greens in the diet – Kale, chard, spinach, broccoli

Good digestion leads to: regular bowel movements, increased energy, weight loss, less body pain and many other benefits.
