Did you know your body has different needs throughout the year? One way to preventing sickness is to build up your immune system and in the following blog, from our sister-site, Dr. Bob shares his best tips during the changing of the seasons:
This is the time of year when people who tend to be deficient in iodine tend to have the most challenges; cold ache in the bones with the first hint of mid 30 to 40 degree temperature with a congested chest and runny nose. If you are experiencing joint pain and are uncomfortable in the cold temperatures you may want to have your serum thyroid panel and vitamin D3 levels assessed. We can send a kit anywhere in the world; you would want a TSH, T3, T4 and TPO and vitamin D. If your T4 result is less than the midline (actually 8 or less) I would recommend at least 6 mg or ½ tablet of Iodizyme-HP™ per day for two weeks then take one per day forever. I personally take 12 mg of iodine every day.
The thyroid gland is affected by seasonal changes. It is the main regulator of your metabolism and your ability to handle the cold and different temperatures. Nearly one-third of all the patients and worldwide clients we consult with or treat have a thyroid gland that is not functioning properly. Over the years, countless people come into the office with a part of the thyroid removed or on a thyroid medication. Thyroid function is important and could be compromised from chlorine in the pool or shower and bromine from the hot tub; review your summer and supplement accordingly.
You want your vitamin D3 level to be at least 40. Vitamin D is very important in preventing colds and flu during the winter. I personally take two to three drops of D Mulsion Forte™ every day during the fall through May. Vitamin D helps manage blood pressure, diabetes, bone strength and your immune system. The combination of vitamin D and iodine are some of the most important supplements necessary for Optimal Fall/Winter health. It is time to take charge and be proactive. This article first appeared on our family site, druglessdoctor.com, with Dr. Bob's tips on how to boost your immune system:
Your immune system made up a variety of organs, glands and systems all of which are interdependent on each other. Your whole body is literally designed to do its part to make sure you are on your game 100% of the time. Stress sabotages your immune system because it creates an acid pH in your body; pH is the measure of alkaline (like baking soda) and acid (like vinegar). Our body typically is an acid state because the bi-product of muscle metabolism is lactic acid. Continuous relentless stress means a lower or an acid pH which depletes minerals and vitamins and therefore needs to be balanced.
For example, calcium is needed to literally “glue” cell membranes together protecting the body from foreign invaders like viruses. When you have deficient calcium the cells are vulnerable and the membrane junctions are easily penetrated. People who have anything from the “flu” to walking or “viral” pneumonia tend to be under stress and/or may be blood Type A which historically have poor digestion and lack of calcium.
Have you noticed that the “flu” season starts right now? The season starts with “trick-or-treat” night which actually starts “sugar season” and will end around the Easter holiday. Sugar compromises the immune system by depleting minerals in the body, which are needed to fuel the warrior cells.
We use several products in the office to help you create a foundation and base for optimal function. You want to avoid stress as much as you possibly can. I would strongly encourage you to eat vegetables, which tend to help you maintain a “healthier” alkaline state for the purpose of keeping the acid under control.
The immune system can be compromised from the micro-trauma of daily living; lack of sleep, too many commitments and not enough time, processed food, toxic water, stress and genetically engineered food. It wise to take care of the immune system before it is near exhaustion I would recommend:
- Bio-Immunozyme Forte™; 3 daily supporting the entire system
- ADB5 Plus™; 4 daily to support adrenal function
- Bio B with C™; supporting cell and nervous system function
I would encourage you to be mindful of what you are also doing in the realm of sleep, food and beverage intake. Sleep is the time of rebuilding, worrying uses up vital minerals and vitamins, having a loaded “day planner” creates stress and the acid pH you want to avoid.
